listen to the new track, ‘big wave’, by rilo kiley frontwoman jenny lewis’ latest incarnation, jenny and johnny
a few weeks ago, newly formed group jenny and johnny—consisting of my music crush jenny lewis and her boyfriend johnathan rice—released the first track, scissor runner, from their forthcoming debut, i’m having fun now (august 31). (you can listen to it here.) yesterday, they released another track, big wave.the first single, scissor runner, in many ways, is still growing on me. ultimately, the track is solid and left me excited and wanting more for a full album.
enter big wave. this is probably the track they should’ve released first. why? well, sorry johnny, but this track is much closer to the jenny lewis we know and love. it’s big on jenny and not so big on johnny. (i like johnathan rice, for the record, but, you know…) jenny and johnny is obviously a bit of a throwback in name, look and sound. they’re a little bit she & him, a little bit beach boys and a little bit, well, jenny lewis and johnathan rice. but altogether, they’re a new creation. more than anything, they’ve seemed to embrace 80s california culture. and, they’re doing it well. big wave is a good track and you can check it out here:
as a bit of an extra, the duo did their first interview with daily candy. it’s a fun video in which they drive around an old station wagon they bought for $900. yeah. the short video shows quite a bit about their musical energy and style. it’s worth the watch.
